CES this year kicked off with Nvidia’s presentation, showcasing Nvidia ACE and a range of technologies propelling us into a robotic future that’s swiftly becoming a reality. The event featured discussions on the imminent wave of robots from various vendors, including contenders aimed at challenging Tesla’s upcoming robot. Interestingly, this robotic wave was initially unveiled at Dell Tech World, where Dell introduced the intriguing Concept Luna project, though it remains in the concept stage.
Let’s delve into the realm of robots featured at CES. To cap it off, we’ll spotlight my Product of the Week: Nvidia’s new competitively priced graphics card, the RTX 4070 Super.
Samsung Ballie:
The Samsung Ballie, introduced in 2020 and updated since, has evolved into an AI-driven mobile digital assistant. While it aids in managing home appliances and projecting videos, its functionality raises questions about its durability, especially in households with playful pets. Ballie roams the house, providing video updates and assisting with activities, showcasing an early example of AI integration in homes.
Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo:
The Ecovacs Deebot X2 stands out as a unique combination of a robotic and handheld stick vacuum. With advanced AI and a square design for improved corner cleaning, the Deebot X2 integrates vacuum functions and includes a hot water mopping feature. Priced around $1,700, it appears more capable than traditional robotic vacuums, offering versatility with a stick vacuum accessory for hard-to-reach places.
Mirokai Robot:
The Mirokai Robot from Enchanted Tools is a forward-looking creation balancing on a ball, enabling rapid movement in three directions. With arms for grasping, an expressive face, and a size comparable to a 12-year-old child, this robot, based on a cartoon character, stands out for its advanced capabilities. Despite potentially high costs, it presents an impressive and artistic offering, positioning Enchanted Tools as a company to watch for future innovations.
LG Smart Home AI Agent:
LG’s digital assistant robot, currently unnamed, boasts two legs and integrates with LG appliances. Similar to Samsung’s Ballie but with a more robotic appearance, it patrols homes, enables remote viewing of pets and kids, and operates with Qualcomm’s RB5 robotic chip. Part of LG’s “Zero Labor Home” initiative, this robot hints at promising home automation technologies in the pipeline.
Artly Barista Bot:
The Artly Barista Bot emerges as an industrial-class robotic barista, showcasing the growing trend of robotics in food preparation. With the ongoing shortage of employees in the food industry, robots like Artly are designed to mimic human baristas, demonstrating superior consistency and quality in repetitive tasks. As the future of fast food unfolds, such robots signify a shift towards automation for greater efficiency and reliability.
